This program investigates how embryonic cardiovascular cell lineages differentiate and interact during heart morphogenesis. The focus is on signaling pathways and transcriptional networks that regulate cell-fate specification and tissue patterning, with the aim of defining their role during development. Defects in these processes during development underlie congenital heart disease, and the same molecules and pathways play roles in cardiovascular tissue homeostasis and disease in adulthood.
