Research at the CNIC is organized into five strategic departments.

Three of them are specifically directed at the most promising areas of basic research, whose results are most likely to be translated rapidly into medical practice.

The other two departments are aimed to improve cardiovascular research in Spain by conducting and promoting high-quality and high-profile basic, clinical, and population research in the cardiovascular area by training new researchers in the field of cardiovascular diseases and promoting the translation of knowledge from basic research to patient care and public health in collaboration with Spain’s National HealthSystem and scientific societies.

The Technical Units provide key Scientific Services to the CNIC´s research groups, and to external users by arrangement. The units also provide expert training in the use of equipment and specialist techniques.
