The CNIC Project and Technology Transfer Office (OTRI) was formally constituted on the 30th October 2002 as "OTRI 172" in the Registry of Technology Transfer Offices of the Inter-ministerial Commission for Science and Technology.

In 2006, the CNIC Project and Technology Transfer Office became an associate member of Red OTRI Universidades, the Spanish network of Technology Transfer Offices.
