Laura obtained her degree in Biology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 2013, where she started her research career, participating in the genetic and biochemical study of bacterial degradation of steroids at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (UCM).
Thanks to CNIC’s Cicerone Program, Laura joined Mercedes Ricote’s lab in summer 2012, where she strengthened her laboratory skills in molecular and cell biology within the study of hematopoiesis and its contribution to homeostasis and repair.
After finishing her Bachelor, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Molecular Biomedicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). Her master’s project focused on the study of macrophages in murine neonatal cardiac regeneration upon cryoinjury. Laura is currently working on her PhD thesis in Mercedes Ricote’s lab, awarded with La Caixa-Severo Ochoa CNIC fellowship, studying the contribution of macrophages to cardiac repair upon myocardial infarction.
