Raquel started her scientific career researching on genetics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) where she got her BSc in Biology on 2013. This year she joined M. Manzanares’ lab at CNIC to study the 3D genome structure behind Pitx2 locus that has been strongly associated to atrial fibrillation (AF). With this project, she got the Master in Biomedicine at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). After that, she stayed at the lab as a PhD student thanks to FPU fellowship. Right now, Raquel is focused on studying the gene regulatory network underlying AF combing 3D chromatin structure assays, gene editing and AF induce animal model. For that, she is collaborating with José Jalife lab at University of Michigan where she has recently done a short stay.
