CNIC at the presentation of the programme ‘Generación D: Construyendo la Generación IA’

Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and of the Civil Service and the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities presented the programme ‘Generación D: Construyendo la Generación IA’ (Generation D: Building the AI Generation) with a 120 million euro investment from Red.es. The profile of the programme’s beneficiaries is post-doctoral (43%), predoctoral (17%) and technical (41%). The presentation was attended by the representative of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and of the Civil Service, Óscar López, and the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Juan Cruz Cigudosa.
Under the auspices of “cardiotrAIning” (the Plan for Training in AI and Big Data for Cardiovascular Health) coordinated by Dr Borja Ibáñez and Dr Fátima Sánchez Cabo, the CNIC is training 15 professionals in artificial intelligence and its application to cardiovascular health thanks to the ambitious training programme that forms part of the Spanish government’s Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience with funding amounting to almost 4 million euros over four years.
In addition to CNIC, the other three organisations selected to execute the programme, which depends on the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, are the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and the Spanish National Centre for Cancer Research (CNIO).
Red.es is an agency under SEDIA (the Secretariat of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence) attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and of the Civil Service; the Secretariat’s mission is to promote this initiative, which also includes a training plan equivalent to 240 ECTS credits.
The programme is financed by the Plan for Recovery, Transformation and Resilience, through EU Next Generation funding within investment 4 of component 19
