Héctor Bueno, cardiologist and researcher, leads the twin Multidisciplinary Translational Cardiovascular Research (MTCR) Groups, one at CNIC and one at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, where he also serves as a clinical cardiologist and scientific director of the Cardiovascular Research Area. Dr. Bueno is an external advisor for the Spanish Ministry of Health, working as Scientific Coordinator of the Spain´s Strategy on Cardiovascular Health.
The Multidisciplinary Translational Research (MTCR) Group is a platform for innovative knowledge generation in cardiovascular health and disease. The mission of the MTCR Group is to promote the generation of disruptive knowledge and innovation with a humanitarian perspective to foster, prevent or improve the health or quality of life of healthy individuals and persons with CVD, increasing the efficiency/safety of the healthcare system.
The MTCR group unites researchers from different backgrounds, including physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, engineers, economists, sociologists… Our basic approach to knowledge generation is dialogue and collaboration among people who speak completely different languages, that is, who have different backgrounds, trainings, skills, operational thinking or use distinctive methods or technologies for problem solving. The effort made to overcome the initial difficulties in communication is our starting point to find the convergence areas where the best opportunities for developing innovative ideas and solutions or disruptive innovation nests.
Our main lines of research or innovation include:
- Improvement in cardiovascular health in the society – Public health
- Cardiovascular epidemiology. Trends, variations, inequities, quality
- New approaches for health data analysis. Common Indicator Model
- Gender equity in cardiovascular health
- Mental health and CVD
- Analysis and improvement of the performance of healthcare systems, including new methods for the analysis and prediction of health results
- New technological solutions for the study and improvement of CV health and CVD management
- Clinical and translational research in acute and chronic CVD. Pathophysiology of atherosclerosis and vascular flow
