Dr. Fátima Sánchez Cabo holds a degree in Mathematics from the Complutense University of Madrid and a PhD in Life Sciences from the University of Manchester, where she completed her doctoral thesis entitled "Statistical Analysis and Mathematical Modeling of Microarray Data" thanks to a BBSRC scholarship. She then pursued a postdoctoral project on the computational study of tumour immunology at the Institute of Genomics and Bioinformatics at the Polytechnic University of Graz (Austria). After a brief period working as a market analyst, she joined the CNIC in 2008, where she leds the Bioinformatics Unit and is the principal investigator of the Computational Systems Biomedicine Laboratory. Dr. Sánchez-Cabo has published more than 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals with over 20,000 citations and an h-index of 47. She is especially interested in the use of AI algorithms and the mathematical modelling of biomedical big data to enhance the understanding of biological systems in the context of cardiovascular disease and aging. She has been PI or co-PI of 11 national and international projects, rising over 7M€ in funding. On top of her research activity, she has a strong commitment to the training of researchers in Bioinformatics and AI for biomedicine. She has supervised 9 PhD students which currently hold positions in USA, Germany and Spain and she is currently supervising 5 students more. Since 2021 Dr. Sánchez-Cabo is also an associate professor at the Autonoma University in Madrid. Moreover, she acts as a reviewer for the European Commission, the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) and for the Spanish Research Agency. She is also the vicepresident of the Spanish Society for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and member of the Advisory Board of ELIXIR.
