Dra García Álvarez combines her activity as group leader of Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension Traslational Research at CNIC with being the Chief of the Cardiology Department in Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and Associate Professor at Universitat de Barcelona. She is also the coordinator of the Database and Statistical committee of the PESA study at CNIC and the coordinator of the Clinic in familiar cardiomyopathies at Hospital Clínic.
She studied Medicine at University of Salamanca, got her Cardiology degree at Hospital Clínic Barcelona and her PhD degree from University of Barcelona. She further specialized in advanced cardiovascular imaging at Mount Sinai Hospital; Statistics and Methodology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health (Johns Hopkins University); and translational research at CNIC. Her areas of research include heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and cardiomyopathies (both inherited or acquired as Chagas heart disease) with a clear translational vocation. She is currently a member of the Nucleus of ESC working group on Pulmonary Circulation and Right Ventricular Function. She has published more than 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals including European Heart Journal, J American College of Cardiology or Circulation.
