Senior technician for the development of computational applications for the JACARDI project

The Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III (F.S.P.) (CNIC) has been conceived to develop research of excellence, competitive and of international relevance in relation to cardiovascular diseases. The CNIC has a research center of 24,000 m2, located in Madrid, with more than 6,000 m2 for laboratories equipped with a state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment.

Functions:

The selected candidate will work on the implementation of a pilot dedicated to the standardization, harmonization and integration of databases on CV disease across different European countries, in the context of the Joint Action for Cardiovascular disease and Diabetes (JACARDI). He/she will have the following tasks:

  • To develop ETL (Extraction, transformation, loading) routines to be implemented in national registries for the standardization of clinical data into common data models. 
  • To implement a hybrid federated system to integrate different sources of information on cardiovascular disease and diabetes across Europe
  • To contribute in the development of a web-tool to simulate the impact of public health policies in the reduction of the prevalence of CVD and diabetes across Europe.
  • To develop containers that can display the tools developed within the pilots.

Mandatory Requirements

  1.  PhD in Bioinformatics, Informatics, Molecular Biology or similar areas.
  2. At least 5 years working in biomedical research centers (3 years and 4 months for disable people greater than 66% and 4 years and 2 months for disable people greater than 33%).

 Valuable Requirements:

  • C1. Experience in administration of GNU/Linux systems and HPC infrastructure. Advanced experience in GNU/Linux system administration, management and use of HPC clusters, queuing systems (SGE, SLURM), management of computational and GPU resources, distributed storage and computing, and infrastructure monitoring.
  • C2. Experience in programming (Python, R, Perl, C++, bash scripting and other relevant languages) and development of automated, traceable (version control: Git, SVN) and reproducible (containers: Docker, Singularity) bioinformatics tools.
  • C3. Experience in data management and big data technologies. Knowledge of relational databases (SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB), as well as experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, etc.) and cloud platforms.
  • C4. Experience in multidisciplinary biomedical research environments and participation in bioinformatics research projects.
  • C5. Underrepresentation of gender by category, in accordance with Action S1 of the 2021-2024 Equality Plan, POSITIVE ACTION IN CALLS FOR POSTS
  • C6. Interview.

Positive action: a correction index of 1.5 is established for each year of experience in the evaluation of the number of years in those criteria where experience is evaluated, in the event that the disable person greater than 66% and 1.2 in the event that the disable person greater than 33%.

  • The position may be filled under a temporary replacement contract until the selection process is concluded.

Recruiment Plan:

The RESOLUTION OF THE SECRETARIAT OF STATE FOR PUBLIC FUNCTION APPROVING THE COMMON ACTION CRITERIA FOR THE RECRUITMENT PROCESSES IN THE STATE PUBLIC SECTOR ENTITIES of April 11, 2022, sets forth in point 6.1 that “Unless a specific regulation establishes a merit-bases recruitment system (“concurso”), the competition (“concurso-oposición”) must be the recruitment system”.

In CNIC, the specific regulations approved by the Foundation's board of trustees establish a merit-based recruitment system (“concurso”) including a personal interview.

At least the 3 candidates with the highest score (as long as they reach the minimum of 60 points as a sum of criteria C1‐C5) will be interviewed. The candidate with the highest score will be hired given the total score (C1-C6) is 75 points or higher.
