The Japanese Agency for Research and Medical Development (AMED) is an institution dedicated to improving medicine through research and development in Japan

The President of the Japanese Agency for Research and Medical Development (AMED), Mr. Makoto Suematsu, the Managing Director of the Foreign Affairs Department, Mr. Masahiko Noda, and the First Secretary - Aggregate of Science and Technology – of the Japanese Embassy in Spain, Mr. Masahiro Aoki, visited the facilities of the Carlos III National Center of Cardiovascular Research (CNIC), accompanied by Alberto Sanz, Managing Director of the CNIC, Borja Ibáñez, Director of Clinical Research, and Vicente Andrés, Director of Basic Research of the CNIC.

The Japanese Agency for Research and Medical Development (AMED) is an institution dedicated to improving medicine through research and development in Japan. Its objective is to accelerate medical R & D to directly benefit the people, not only by extending life expectancy, but also by improving the quality of life. The Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation (SEIDI) signed an agreement with AMED last April during the trip of Their Majesties the Kings to Japan.

The representatives of AMED had the opportunity to visit some of the CNIC’s laboratories and held a meeting with Dr. Valentín Fuster, General Director of the CNIC, who expressed the desire for these visits to turn into a close scientific collaboration between the two countries very soon.
