Elías Herrero-Galán obtained his PhD at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Universidad Complutense de Madrid, describing structure-function relationships in the fungal ribotoxins family under the direction of Dr. Mercedes Oñaderra Sánchez.
In 2009 he joined the Optical Nanomanipulation Lab directed by Dr. Ricardo Arias-González at the Madrid Institute Of Advanced Studies IMDEA-Nanociencia. There he got into single-molecule manipulation techniques, investigating the mechanical properties of double-stranded RNA by means of Optical Tweezers, Magnetic Tweezers, AFM and Differential Scanning Calorimetry. In 2011 he continued his training in the field of Electron Microscopy at the National Centre Of Biotechnology (CNB-CSIC) under the supervision of Dr. José María Valpuesta.
In 2014 he arrived at the Molecular Mechanics of the Cardiovascular System Lab at CNIC, where he studies the effect of posttranslational modifications in the elasticity of cardiac proteins.
