High Risk Plaque Spain

CNIC Project 1 is a pilot study of a cohort of workers from the General Motors automobile assembly plant in Figueruelas (Zaragoza). The aim of the study is to evaluate the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis and its progression among 4500 young and middle-aged men and women, in order to obtain more precise prognostic information. The study is being conducted through collaboration with the Instituto Aragonés de Ciencias de la Salud.

CNIC Project 2 is a larger study designed to evaluate the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis and its progression among more than 6000 young and middle-aged (40 to 55 years) working men and women from private companies.

At the CNIC, the project will involve the participation of the Department of Atherothrombosis, Imaging and Epidemiology and the Translational Platform.

The innovative characteristics of this project compared with previous studies are the evaluation of a younger group and its longitudinal design. The study will also provide a systems biology approach, integrating evaluation by advanced ultrasound, MRI, PET, and genomic, epigenomic and metabolomic analyses.
