The Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC), an international leader in research dedicated to cardiovascular disease, has obtained €1.7m in European Commission cofunding to support its CURE HEART & BRAIN project under the COFUND 2022 call. COFUND actions provide funding for regional, national, and international programmes to promote researcher training, career development, and international mobility.

The CURE HEART & BRAIN fellowship programme aims to attract excellent researchers of any nationality to the CNIC. The programme will offer 12 positions for candidates holding a PhD and who have not worked or resided in Spain during the 12 months before the call closing date.

Each postdoctoral fellow joining the CNIC under this programme will run her or his own original research project under the supervision of one of the CNIC Group Leaders. The fellows will acquire new skills through advanced training and international, interdisciplinary, and inter-sectoral mobility.

The goal of the programme is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of a new generation of translational researchers in cardiovascular research and related areas, as well as to communicate the research programme goals and outcomes to the public.

CURE HEART & BRAIN includes 24 Associated Partners from all over the world and from different sectors, providing a strong translational element to the programme.

Spanish research institutions received €19.44m funding in the COFUND 2022 call, making Spain the second largest recipient in terms of total funding and the largest in terms of the number of projects funded.
